This has been a tiring week and I am longing for holidays so that I can catch up my sleep. But then, i do have cleaning stuff to be done ! Uffffff…. So, without enough blabbering, let me get straight to the recipe.
Potatoes are universal favorite and one cannot hide or deny their desire for potatoes. Easy Potato Kurma is perfect for weeknight dinners which can be served with rice or rotis. Potatoes are cooked with spices and grounded coconut paste. They are kids friendly and can be prepared in few minutes. Prepare this easy potato kurma and delight everyone in the family with this delicious curry.
Ingredients:

Prep time: 10 minutes; Cooking Time: 25 minutes
- 3 medium sized Potatoes
- 1 large Onion, finely chopped
- 2 medium sized Tomatoes
- 1 Bay leaf
- 2 Cloves
- 1 inch Cinnamon stick
- 1 teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste
- ½ teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- 1 ½ teaspoon Red Chili Powder
- 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder
- ½ teaspoon Garam masala powder
- 1 tablespoon Oil
- Salt as required
To grind:
- 1 teaspoon Fennel Seeds
- 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
- ½ cup Grated Coconut
Method:
- Pressure cook potatoes for two whistles; once boiled, remove skin and cut them into cubes; Keep aside.
- Grind all the ingredients mentioned under To Grind and ground them into a fine paste.
- Heat oil in a medium frying pan.
- Add cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf and finely chopped onion. Cook until they become transparent.
- Add ginger garlic paste and saute’ for few minutes
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become sauce.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder and cook until the spice powders are blended well with the onion-tomato mixture
- Add cubed potatoes and toss them well with the spicy mixture in the pan
- Add the grounded coconut paste and a cup of water.
- Cook them until the potatoes are absorbed in the spices and required amount of consistency is reached
- Serve potato kurma with hot rice, chapatti or roti’s
