For a person who loves authentic food items, I always prefer to prepare my own sauces from the scratch with handpicked ingredients from the local farmer’s market. But then, my perception was completely changed unless I visited Oil & Vinegar. It was a crowded Saturday and we were shopping to our heart content at South Hills Mall. Usually, I hop from store to store and gaze at the items. It’s how I stumbled upon this innovatively designed store. Their oil on tap attracted me and I knew by then, my cart would be loaded with their flavored oils. A visit to their store is an experience and they do have a wide variety of products hand-selected by their buying team which is produced traditionally by the local family business across the world.
The Store at South Hills Mall is locally owned by a couple – Angela and Todd. I loved the way they address personal needs of every customer visiting the store and suggesting them according to their taste preference and desire. If you love Mediterranean food, then I strongly recommend you to visit their stores as they have rubs for your summer barbeque needs. As they say, one could taste Mediterranean Sun in their products.
With such artistically designed interior and tempting spread of products, it is surely a culinary experience and one cannot resist herself from buying products. I have tried their Orange fig Marmalade and prepared Linzer cookies for my blog anniversary. It was a big hit among our family and became our house favorite. Since then, it has become a monthly ritual for me to visit the stores and try their handcrafted products.
I was in a need for a long time to pick a hot sauce, a real hot one. When I say it’s Hot, I mean it, not the one which is stocked in store shelf with bright color reading Hot but tasting sour, sometimes sweet. My need is a real Hot one which leaves you burnt up. When I expressed my desire to Angela, she was patient enough to pick the right product for me which suits my needs. After tasting and choosing various products, she finally chose Habanero Sauce – a flavor of Africa. Did I say that we were running for water after tasting a drop of this fiery hot sauce?
And what I did with Habanero Sauce is Tacos loaded with colorful vegetables, mango, lime and Habanero sauce sautéed shrimps. All you need in hand is 10 minutes + Mango + Lemons + Habanero Sauce + Tortillas + Shrimp to whip up an easy weeknight dinner. Did I say the tacos are spicy with crunchy vegetables, sweet ripe mangoes and a dash of sourness from lemons? That sounds like a perfect blend to tickle your taste palette.
